Reflection
I personally believe the Developmental Standards are very important in this ever changing society we live in today. They set a very specific goal for teachers in any secondary aged classroom. It is important that we have these standards because they make sure teachers stay on track and on base when teaching. They promote education to teachers about new important aspects of teaching such as classroom management, and new technologies that are available. They also make sure teachers are trying to always improve their teaching abilities by being aware of who their students actually are as people (their families, backgrounds, cultures, etc.). I believe so many teachers loose their “sparkle” as years pass, and they begin to just go with the flow, never changing a lesson. These standards suggest that teachers should always be changing their lessons and improving on old ones. I believe this is very important not only to get students involved, but also to keep the teacher on her toes.
Personally I think I need to improve my knowledge of how to work with students who are gifted or have exceptionalities. I feel like I know how to teach and get through to the majority it’s the minority I have to learn how to teach. Also I need to improve my ability to use technology. I hate texting and I would rather read a book than watch a documentary any day. I also am horrible with new technology and learning how it works. I am definitely going to have to get the hang of learning new technology before I become a teacher.
